Green Initiatives - Little America Hotel Salt Lake City Utah

The Little America Hotel, a proud member of the Grand America Hotel and Resorts, has been committed to excellence and customer service since the original Little America opened in 1934. In an effort to maintain our high level of quality and service we are pleased to share with you our Environmental Procedures and Green Initiatives.

Energy Use

In-room auto-adjusted thermostats recognize, through our property management system, when rooms are vacant and adjusts the temperature, to 68˚ F., to conserve energy.
Energy efficient lighting system on entire 9 acre property.
Star Energy commercial appliances and HVAC units upgraded in 2002.
Reusable amenity program available upon guests’ request.
We have received the highest level of energy conservation initiative rebates from Rocky Mountain Power since 2003, this is currently 80% of kilowatts per hour saved.

Waste Management

We utilize a commercial grade trash compacting program to minimize our contribution to landfill space.
Our offices and business center have established a paper recycling program.
By using glass, china, linen table clothes and napkins in guest rooms, banquet facilities and restaurants the Little America Hotel is able to minimize our waste.
All restaurant and banquet facilities use reusable condiment dishes allowing for less waste of plastic and glass containers and food.

Water Conservation

All Public area restrooms are equipped with sensor faucets and toilets minimizing water flow.
Low flow in-room showerheads (2.5 gl per minute) were installed in February 2008.
Reusable linen program available upon guests’ request.
On site laundry facility allows the Little America Hotel to monitor and control water usage.

Environmentally Preferred Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies are purchased from Eco-Logic Solutions. Supplies are bio-degradable and reduce the environmental imprint that standard chemicals produce.

Other “Earth” Friendly Measures

In an effort to ensure our level of excellence, our sales and catering staff will customize Hotel events to fit our client’s environmental needs.
The Grand and Little America Hotels recycled 131 tons of material by-product in 2006 and 150 tons in 2007. Our goal is to increase our recyclable waste an additional 15% or 172 tons for 2008.
